An important and timely conference supported by Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada and industry sponsors that included 75 First Nations delegates from throughout BC, senior government officials, members of the consulting community, association and industry leaders. Designed as an engagement session to bring First Nation communities together to develop a draft action plan and provide recommendations related to tailings ponds.

The symposium has produced a final report that outlines First Nations recommendations to mitigate the potential risks of tailing ponds and shape prospective business development and employment opportunities in relation to the construction, operation and monitoring of tailing ponds.
